From the moment I started reading Wise Secrets of Aloha, I could
feel the sacred beauty of Hawaii and wanted to go there immediately!
(I never had that pull before.) Thanks to Garnette Arledge's exquisite
writing, I could feel the fragrant breezes, the ocean, the sunlight
and all the lushness and loving energy that permeate the atmosphere
there. And then we meet Harry Uhane Jim who so generously shares his
delightful spirit and the healing messages and energies of Lomilomi.
This book is a great blessing to our planet. It teaches us. It heals
us. I'll be forever grateful to Kahuna Harry for allowing these sacred
and invaluable teachings to emerge into the world market; and to
Garnette Arledge whose deep sensitivity to the essence of this work
and prodigious literary skills make her the perfect author of this
gem. May it heal millions.

Bright and Clear, Well worth your time and presence, May 9, 2010

I have read (in many cases slogged) through all Kahuna-type and
Hawaiian Mystical I could find. From Max Freedom Long, to Fundamentals
of Hawaiian Mysticism and so on, to the somewhat clearer The Sacred
Power of Huna: Spirituality and Shamanism in Hawaii, Hawaiian Magic &
Spirituality to the much better The Secrets and Mysteries of Hawaii: A
Call to the Soul In all of these works other works you really do have
a reconstructive approach to the Hawaiian ways that is done by an
outsider to one degree or another. Pila, perhaps because of his
Cherokee heritage was able to look into the ways of his Island
brothers and unravel much of the mystery there. But this book by
lineage holder Harry Uhane Jim is something in another class by
itself.
This book conveys a high degree of clear consciousness from beginning
to end. And what is important here is that Huna and Lomilomi are not
presented as technique but as life-affirming and healing perspectives,
ways of looking at the world. The spiritual essence that this book
carries is very high and very pure. It reminds me of the best of the
mystical works of the Sufi's and others who see the unity behind the
essence of a light and life.
Even if you are not specifically interested in Hawaiian mysticism or
healing this book is sure to re-awaken aspects of your being and help
you to live more fully. Very highly recommended.
In the same line as this book I would recommend the works of Joseph
Rael (Beautiful Painted Arrow) Being and Vibrationand Sufi master
Hazrat Inayat Khan The Heart of Sufism.

Sacred Art of Lomilomi (Paperback)
Although not a spiritualist, I found myself immersed in the quiet,
calm voice of Harry Uhane Jim, as reported by Garnette Arledge. Kahuna
Harry shares the secret teachings of his Hawaiian heritage, now in
danger of being lost. Of special resonance to me was the principle of
"compassionate disengagement." For Harry, genuine healing calls on the
presence of the Light Within to reflect energy so as to generate the
other person's sovereignty. That sounds right to me.

Harry Uhane Jim's book unpretentiously and with great humor brings in
the powerfully human experience of Hawaiian kahuna vibrational
medicine. The book, in concert with his workshops, offers us a deep
opportunity to enjoy the force of spiritual exploration in the
confines of a glorious, light way of being. You will never say "Aloha"
without understanding the sacred blessing it truly is. Reiki
practitioners will find a clear resonance with Harry's work, he uses
examples that speak to Reiki in is cases.

I have studied Hawaiian culture for ten years and this book is the
real deal. Harry writes both from the heart and from true
understanding of the foundation of the Hawaiian culture. He shares the
complexities of the beliefs and practices while making it easy to
understand and take in to your own life. This book was a gift to me
from my kumu lomilomi. It has been one I have passed on to my students
at every class ever since.

When
Garnette Arledge met Kahuna Harry Uhane Jim, this book was set in
motion. She knew the work would be born; however, she would have to
ask 3 times if the time was right…so she waited. We now are privileged
to take a look into Hawaiian culture and into the healing process of
Lomilomi. In a world, such as ours, it is time to bring forth the
mystery and powerful traditions of Aloha.
Aloha means “the
breath of God is in our presence”….”A blessing in the declaration of
being.” The kahunas of the past, servants of God, were put into hiding
because of the missionaries that were fearful of them, outlawing
healers in the 1870’s. Out of 300,000 islanders, only 60,000 survived.
The power of Lomilomi continues to be practiced due to the strength and
belief of those that came before. Arledge writes, Lomilomi is “the
sacred shift within you that is inspired by the healing kahuna raising
your vibrations and all that is around you.” Kahuna Harry does not
believe one requires an intermediary, though sometimes our health
issues and emotional wounds are buried so deep, a Kahuna’s work in
raising the receiver’s vibration is effective and significantly
relieves the receiver of much suffering.
Authors Harry and
Garnette speak in an interview form and many of the beliefs and customs
of the Kahuna and Lomilomi are revealed. ‘The ancient ones believed
that all time is now, that we are each creators of our lifestyle and
its conditions. We created who we are and everything that becomes a
part of our lives.” These beliefs are quite gentle in spirit and speak
to the wisdom of this esoteric culture. Kahuna Harry goes on to speak
about the history and path of the ancient Lomilomi customs and
Kahunas. They believe that Lomilomi “empowers the God in you.” What a
strong and exciting belief!
There are 3 aspects to each
person: Au’makua (the God self), Uhane (“a person’s emotionally mature
will), and Unihipli (the unconscious). This triune can work for you.
The authors describe each aspect and how they connect to help you
manifest healing.
The first technique of Lomilomi is Creating Space
where gratitude is directed to the receiver and commits “the energy of
certainty to the abundance and perfection of (my) intuition” because
the Kahuna is “radiant in the Light of Aloha.”
Part Two of Wise Secrets of Aloha shares 3 Lomilomi techniques of healing:
The Ha Breath- “In
Lomilomi treatments, it describes a deliberate process of breathing in
through the nose and out of the mouth deeply and completely, making the
“ha” sound on the exhale. This breathing is intended to enjoin the
presence of the verb of God to heal through emotional evolution.”
Laulima- “Cooperation,
joint action, a group of people working together. Spiritually, many
hands coming together for healing, to raise the vibration.”
Bone Washing- “the
giver places his or her fingers on the receiver’s body and, moving the
fingers between the muscles around the bones, directs energy to clear
out the energy of the remembered wounds.”
In part three, the
authors share the dynamics of living a life of abundance and living in
the Aloha spirit. Forgiveness frees wounds to be healed and gratitude
must be present for abundance to flow. At this point, Kahuna Harry
shares how he came to face and accept his life’s calling to follow his
Kahuna ancestors to be a Lomilomi healer.
He tells of his
“dark night of the soul” experience, when his grandfather died. His
wounds were not healed completely and his peace was gone. This
experience with depression and ultimate recovery brought him to where
he needed to be to accept his life’s purpose of healing.
Wise
Secrets of Aloha shares the stories of healing from others who were
receivers of Kahuna Harry and the Lomilomi treatment. They are
believers in this process and feel they are better for their sessions
with Kahuna Harry Uhane Jim. He realizes he is simply a conduit of
healing and that the healing is within you waiting to be found and
unleashed.
Lomilomi is a wonderful treatment of healing;
bringing the love and peace of mind that is our natural state beyond
the emotional wounds, into alignment.
Wise Secrets of Aloha
is a wonderful story of the ancient art of healing and the modern day
Kahuna who is helping others to raise their vibrations and to live
above and beyond the pain and into a state of gratitude.
